A Nonprofit Foundation
Building the Future of American Watchmaking
The Hands of Time Scholars Foundation provides scholarships for aspiring watchmakers — investing in the craft, one student at a time.
The Crisis
A Craft at a Crossroads
American watchmaking faces a critical workforce shortage. The number of practicing watchmakers in the US has plummeted from approximately 44,000 in 1953 to fewer than 2,000 today. With a 10:1 hiring ratio — ten positions for every qualified watchmaker — the industry desperately needs new talent.
Yet only 9 accredited full-time watchmaking schools exist in the entire country, with a combined capacity of just 42 students per year. At the Rolex Dallas campus alone, 560 applicants compete for only 27 spots — a 4.82% acceptance rate.1
